Violence erupts over dalit's death, 4 cops 15 people injured
Gulbarga, Jun 19 (UNI) Four policemen including an officer and 15 villagers were injured in stone pelting and lathi charge as violence broke out following over the controversial death of a dalit farmer.
Official sources said that the body of Paramanna a 45-year-old farmer was found hanging in his house today. Villagers of Aldal alleged that the landlord had invited the deceased to his house for negotiations last night, but today he was found dead. They charged that the landlord was responsible for the farmer's death.
Large number of villagers gathered and brought the body to the main road and stopped traffic. Later a group of four cops including a sub inspector went to the village and were greeted by stone pelting in which they were injured. Villagers also damaged two police vehicles.
Police rushed with additional reinforcements ordered lathi charge in which 15 people were injured.
The agitators demanded the arrest of the landlord. They refused to hand over the body to the police autopsy.
Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey and Superitendent of Police Manish Kabidkar went to the spot and pacified the villagers assuring them of an thorough inquiry. The body was sent for post mortem.
