TN CM signs as third proposer of Pratibha's candidature

Chennai, Jun 19 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today signed as the third proposer of UPA-Left party nominee Ms Pratibha Patil's candidature for Presidentship after Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The DMK leader, who played a vital role in evolving a consensus between the Congress and Left party leaders in deciding the choice of Ms Patil, signed the papers, brought here by Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi.

After Ms Gandhi and Dr Singh signed the papers as the first and second proposers respectively, Mr Dasmunshi, flew down here to secure the signature of Mr Karunanidhi as the third proposer.

In a brief chat with newspersons, Mr Dasmunshi said after getting the signatures of Ms Gandhi and Dr Singh, he had come here to get Ms Patil's nomination papers proposed by the DMK Chief.

''Our candidate will win the elections hands down...it will not just be UPA's victory as Ms Patil will get support from all around,'' he added.
