Telgi files application against releasing film
Pune, Jun 19 (UNI) Prime accused in the inter-State fake stamp paper scam Abdul Karim Telgi today filed an application in the MCOCA Court, seeking a stay on the release of a film based on his life titled, 'Mudrank - The Stamp'.
Telgi's lawyer Milind Pawar told UNI that in the application Telgi has said his case was in a crucial stage and the release of such a film could cause problems like some people may begin to duplicate stamps again.
Meanwhile, CBI has said the Writer-Director of the film Shakir Sheikh and Producer of the film, Pune-based hardware businessman Bhagwan Saungar should be given a chance to explain their stand before the court.
The Court has asked the two through CBI, to be present in court on June 29.
The two-and-half hour film is based on the life of Telgi, who is lodged in the Yerawada Jail here for the past three years. The film is made with a budget of Rs 1.5 crore in 23 days with a cast mostly from Pune namely Milind Gunaji, Raza Murad and Nirmal Pande. It has item songs by Rakhi Sawant and Sambhavana Seth while the music is by Bappi Lahiri.
The Court fixed June 26 for the hearing of the case and asked all parties to be present. The court has also fixed the same date for deciding whether the entire fake stamp paper scam comes under MOCOCA Act. Earlier, an application was filed by Telgi and other accused that the fake stamp paper scam case did not fulfil conditions required to be booked under MCOCA.
