Phagwara, June 19 (UNI) Taraksheel Society Punjab, along with similar other social organisations, has formed a joint 21-member Action Committee to protest against "Pakhandi Babas" (fraud godmen) in the state and blocked traffic near Adampur police station last evening demanding action against one such ''spiritual fraud.'' Talking to newspersons here today, Taraksheel Society's media Incharge Jaswinder Patwari said that hundreds of their activists held dharna and blocked vehicular traffic near Adampur Police station on Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur last evening seeking action against ''cheating and looting of the people by a woman Sarabjit Kaur popular as Surja Devi at village Jalbhein near Adampur.

He alleged that so-called 'Surja Devi', in the name of treating patients spiritually in ''violation of "Drugs and Magic Remedies act 1954'' and other articles of the constitution, was fleecing innocent villagers.

The Taraksheel Society, alon gwith similar progressive organisations, will intensify the stir, if any strong action was not initiated against the 'Pakhandi Sadhwi', who also ran a 'dera' in the village and other such ''fraud godpersons'' in the state.

They would also hold awareness campaigns among vulnerable people, especially in rural areas, so that they did not fall victim to such ''self-promoting'' frauds, Mr Patwari said.
