Signature campaign for release of Aung San Suu Kyi
Chennai, June 19 (UNI) A signature campaign is underway here for the release of Mynmarese democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi from the Junta-enforced house arrest.
Striking a parallel with the Indian non-violent freedom struggle, the organisers are partaking in a worldwide concerted effort for the release of Ms Suu Kyi, a Gandhian whose struggle for the liberation of Myanmar won international acceptance, and restoration of democracy in that country, on her 62nd birthday.
The organisers have so far collected 6,738 signatures from across the city to add up to the national total, ABRS state president P Maruthy said.
Mr Maruti said signature campaign is to show there solidarity with the 'Leader of Masses' and to invoke the world-consciousness to press for her immediate release.
