Punjab to spend Rs 100 crore to clean drains
Moga, June 19 (UNI) The Punjab government has allocated Rs 100 crore for desilting and cleaning of drains and providing clean water, to ensure that people did not suffer due to water logging, specially during the rainy season.
Punjab Revenue minister Ajit Singh Kohar, while talking to UNI here, stressed that the government was committed to eradicate water logging in all the districts of the state and the work would be taken up with extra zeal in view of the rainy season ahead.
Already, work on eradication of water logging-desilting of existing drains was going on at a war-footing in Muktsar district and a sum of Rs 40 crore was allocated for the district for this purpose.
The work was scheduled to be completed by this month-end in the district, where another Rs 8.50 crore project would also be taken up for construction of water courses and desilting of the existing water sources.
Similarly, various projects were underway in other districts as well to ensure clean water and environment to the people, the minister said.
