New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Punjab PWD Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa today met Union Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh regarding the up-gradation of rural road network under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Bharat Nirman.

About 7582 Kms of rural roads have been identified in the State of Punjab for up-grading under core networks out of which 5072 Kms are proposed to be upgraded/rehabilitated up to Phase VIII by March 2009.

Mr Dhindsa and his official team apprised the Union Minister of the problems being faced by them and the proposed targets also.

It was informed that the Punjab Government will have to bear a large financial burden to acquire land for the projects under PMGSY.

They also requested that Ministry of Rural Development may ease the norms regarding the minimum requirement of Right of Way (ROW) to the extent which is technically feasible.

''This will reduce the financial burden on the Punjab Government and also enable speedy implementation of the projects,'' Mr Dhindsa added.

Dr Singh assured them that his Ministry would provide all necessary help for the timely completion of the various projects under the PMGSY as well as relaxation in the norms of ROW as requested by the Punjab Government.
