Police fire teargass to disperse demonstrator in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jun 19 (UNI) Police today fired teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators in central Kashmir, who were demanding the bodies of three slain militants killed by police in an encounter at Beerwah yesterday.

The bodies of slain militants were kept in a police station since yesterday morning.

Hundreds of people, including women, today took to streets at Beerwah, Sonapah and Gundpora in the central Kashmir district of Badgam, demanding that the bodies of three militants, including self styled Divisional Commander of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) be handed over to them for burial.

The demonstrators raising slogans against the police and claimed that police has refused to hand over the bodies to them for performing their last rites.

They alleged Bilal, one of the three militants, police claimed to have killed in an encounter at Beerwah early yesterday, was missing for the past two days from his house.

Police fired teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge when the demonstrators were trying to block the traffic on the main road.

Later, the dispersed after the body of Bilal was handed over to them.

A police spokesman yesterday claimed to have killed three LeT militants, including its Divisional Commander Furkan, a Pakistan resident in an encounter at Chewdara.
