One injured in violence in HP University

Shimla, June 19 (UNI) One student of the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) was seriously injured today following a clash between students owing allegiance to SFI and ABVP, university and police sources said.

Heated arguments between the SFI and ABVP activists over the manhandling of a student who had come to appear in an entrance examination, turned violent in front of the Cafeteria at about 1500 hrs.

After exchanging a few blows among them they dispersed, only to return with more students and pelted stones at each other just outside the Vice Chancellor's office.

However, timely intervention of the police brought the situation under control.

Talking to UNI, Shimla ASP D W Negi said the situation on the campus was under control and police force has been deployed in the University to prevent any violence.

He said supporters of both the groups clashed over a petty issue, adding that no FIR has been lodged until now as the priority was to prevent more violence rather than booking students.

Meanwhile, both the ABVP and the SFI blamed each other for the violence in the University and demanded strict action against their rivals.
