NMCC launches national manufacturing portal
New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) today launched a national manufacturing portal to empower the small and medium enterprises.
The portal, www.nmcc-vikas.gov, under the project named 'Vikas' has been created by NMCC with support from Microsoft Corporation Pvt Ltd.
''Through an ICT based intervention model, Project 'Vikas' will enhance the SMEs and give them a competitive edge in the global market,'' NMCC Chairman V Krishnamurthy said.
''Such initiative will enable the SMEs to access to the market easily by overcoming their hurdles.'' The Council's partnership with Microsoft will result in overall competitiveness of manufacturing through skill enhancement, he added.
Project 'Vikas' aimes to develop knowledge networks through the creation of R&D linkages, capacity building with regional training institutes and enable linkage with the SME cluster eco-system.
''We wanted to provide some IT solution for the manufacturing industry and 'Vikas' was the ultimate result of that,'' said Microsoft Corporation India Chairman Ravi Venkatesam.
The project will help bring social and economic opportunity to an estimated five billion people across the globe who are currently not realising the benefits of technology, he added.
''Its an initiative that how we are using ICT to serve underserved sector.'' The portal will be replicated in 14 Indian languages very soon.
