Nitish welcomes constituion of Nalanda mentor group

Patna, June 19 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today welcomed External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's announcement in Singapore of constitution of Nalanda Mentor Group headed by Nobel laureate Professor Amartya Sen.

He said this would help in determining the pedagogy, structure and management of the proposed Nalanda University in the state.

Mr Kumar in a statement said he had personally urged the President and the Prime Minister to take initiative for setting up the Nalanda University.

''The mentor group, led by Nobel laureate Prof Sen, would submit its recommendataions as early as possible,'' he hoped adding the first group of the meeting was scheduled to be held in Singapore in mid-July.

Earlier, Bihar state legislatures had passed a legislation for setting up the Nalanda University which embedded the concept of international partnership among various Asian countries to achieve the cherished goal.
