New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) A three-member delegation led by NDA Convenor George Fernandes called on President A P J Abdul Kalam and apprised him of the latest development in Nandigram in West Bengal where the left front cadre in police uniform fired on the innocent villagers from the adjoining Khejuri area.

Later talking to UNI, the Trinamool Congress leader and a member of the delegation Dinesh Trivedi said the farmers of Nandigram were opposing the forceful land acquisation of the State Government for the setting up of the Tata's small car project.

He said the President lert an ear to their grievances and expressed deep anguish over the recent development.

Mr Digvijay Singh of the JD(U) was the third member of the NDA delegation.

When asked whether their meeting with Dr Kalam was to convince Dr Kalam to take part in the Presidential election, Mr Trivedi said the meeting had nothing to do with the Presidential election.
