Milk costlier by Rs 2 a litre in Kashmir, govt silent
Srinagar, June 19: People in the Kashmir valley have to pay more for milk after a local private milk company announced sudden increase of Rs two per litre.
This was the fourth such increase since October last year when a litre was being sold Rs 14.
However, there was no reaction from the divisional authorities to the increase by the company.
The '' Khyber Agro Farms private limited'', one of the main milk suppliers to the people in the Kashmir valley today announced Rs two increase per litre in Srinagar, Badgam and Anantnag while a litre will cost Rs 21 now in other places across the Kashmir valley.
Similarly, a 200 gram curd pack will cost Rs eight from today, the company said in a statement here.
It said the rate will remain applicable till the government comes out with a notification under the guidelines issued by minister Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Taj Mohiuddin as was agreed at a meeting held on June 18.
There was still no increase by other companies supplying milk in the valley.
Meanwhile, almost all vegetables and fruits are being sold on higher rates.
There is no fixed rate for vegetables and other eatables, people said, alleging that authorities have failed to check the price rise.
A kilo of peas is being sold at Rs 30, onion and potato at Rs 15 per kg and tomato Rs 30 per kg, beans at Rs 30 and a kg of mutton at Rs 180 per kg against the government rate of Rs 125 per kg.
