Meteorological Dept predicts heavy rains in parts of Maharashtra
Mumbai, June 19 (UNI) With the monsoon showers finally bringing the soaring temperatures down in the city, Meteorological department today predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra over the next few days.
The south-west monsoon has hit the capital and covered Dhanau and Parbhani areas of Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, said weather bureau officials.
However, the city recorded 22.3 mm and 8.2 mm of rains at Santacruz and Colaba respectively in the last 24 hours.
According to the Met department, rains or thundershowers, accompanied by strong gusty winds, are expected to hit parts of the city and suburbs in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, south-west monsoon has further advanced into parts of Konkan, Marathwada and the Vidharbha region. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over North Konkan (in Raigad district and Ghat areas) during the next 48 hours.
Further, thunder squall with a wind speed exceeding 50 kmph is likely at isolated places over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra during the next 24 hours.
Met department has also issued a warning to fishermen against venturing into the high seas.
