Madarsa to reopen on July 1
Allahabad, June 19 (UNI) The Madarsa, Jamaitusalehat Al Islamia which had been closed, following rape of two students on January 17, would reopen on July 1.
On January 17, two students of the seminary were kidnapped and later gang raped. After which, the Madarsa was closed for one month with immediate effect.
Later, due to renovation work, the closure was extended.
The incident, occuring before the 15th Uttar Pradesh assembly election had sparked off a huge controversy.
BSP chief Mayawati had visited the Madarsa and granted the monetary help of Rs five lakh to the management, which was, however, returned. Besides, many leaders of the then Samajwadi Party (SP)-led UP government visited the spot.
The probe into the case have come in full-swing after the change in regime. The Mayawati government had set up two probe teams into the case, with SSP S K Pratap Kumar over seeing the investigations.
SP MP from Phoolpur Ateeq Ahmad, charged with rescuing the accused, is now himself demanding CBI probe into the case.
Meanwhile, the Madarsa management has decided to reopen it, with the beefed up security for the students. Besides, the state government has deployed four armed police personnel there.
