Legal action against 286 involved in land grabbing:Kumaraswamy
Bangalore, June 19 (UNI) Karnataka government will initiate legal action against 286 persons who were involved in land grabbing in and around Bangalore City, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.
He said that the names of those involved would be made public within two weeks.
Mr Kumaraswamy was speaking to newsmen after presiding over a meeting of a House Committee set up to probe into land scam.
Declining to name important persons involved, he said the list includes some VVIPs, politicians and officials. They are involved in forging documents and encroaching several tank beds also for real estate development, he added.
He said that the Committee had recovered 8000 acres of land so far and the government would give priority to utilise the land for providing housing facility to the poor. Already 4000 acres have been utilised for the purpose.
He said that the Committee had suggested setting up of a separate committee to probe into the land scam taking place in other cities and towns in the State.
Replying to a question, Mr Kumarswamy said that he has convened a meeting of officials tomorrow to discuss on the outcome of the meeting held with the farmers representatives on farmer suicides on June 14. The meeting would discuss on creating new marketing facilities in domestic, inter-state and overseas for crops grown by the farmers, he added.
