James Butler new Deputy Director General of FAO

New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director-General Jacques Diouf today appointed James G Butler as the new Deputy Director-General of the organisation.

Mr Butler, hailing from the United States, has been serving the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture as Deputy Director-General since December 2005.

He is expected to assume his new duty in January 2008.

Mr Butler previously served as Deputy Undersecretary of the Farm and Foreign Agriculture Service of the US Department of Agriculture from November 2002 to December 2005.

He holds a PhD in Animal Physiology from the University of Arizona, an MS in Animal Science from New Mexico University, and a BS in Animal Science from Texas A&M University.

Mr Butler succeeds Mr David Harcharik, who has held the position since January 1998, a FAO release said here.
