Haryana to clear cane growers's payment in a month

Chandigarh, June 19 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to clear the entire payment of sugarcane growers amounting to about Rs 102 crore within one month for the sugarcane crushed during the year 2006-07 by all the Cooperative Sugarmills in the state.

This was stated by Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha while presiding over a meeting of the Haryana Sugarcane Control Board here today.

Mr Chatha said Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had directed the Sugarfed authorities to clear the arrears of the cane growers within next one month.

It was also decided in the meeting that the new Sugar Mill being set up at Phaphrana village in Assandh Sub-Division by HAFED would start functioning from February, 2008 on trial basis.

Sugarfed Managing Director Vimal Chander said that 670 lakh quintal of sugarcane was crushed during the year 2006-07 as against 420 lakh quintal crushed during 2005-06.

He said out of 670 lakh quintal sugarcane, 340 lakh quintals was crushed by the Cooperative Sugarmills while rest of the sugarcane was crushed by the private sugar mills of the state.
