Fresh Hizb recruit arrested in south Kashmir

Srinagar, June 19: The Army today claimed to have arrested a fresh Hizbul Mujahideen recruit in south Kashmir.

A defence spokesman said 44 Rashtriya Rifles and police launched a joint operation following specific information about the presence of Fayaz Shah alias Pir along with two Hizb recruits in Nangsar general area, about six km north of Hirpur, Pulwama.

During searches, security forces observed suspicious movement in the area. The individuals were challenged, but they tried to escape on horses, he added.

However, one of them, identified as Muzzafar Ahmed Mir, a resident of Drabgam Pulwama was apprehended.

During questioning, the spokesman said Mir admitted of being a new Hizb recruit and said Pir was taking him for arms training in a jungle area.

Mir was later handed over to Shopian police station for further investigations, he added.
