Hoshiarpur, June 19 (UNI) To check the quality of development works being carried out by Panchayats and to ensure proper utilisation of funds by them, flying squad teams have been constituted in Patiala, Ferozepur and Jalandhar divisions of the state.

This was stated by Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats Ranjit Singh Brahampura while talking to media persons here today.

Mr Brahampura said the flying squad team with the help of local authorities would make surprise checking of material being used in the ongoing works.

He pointed out that development works in the villages, including pavement of streets and drains, were being undertaken by most of the Panchayats in unplanned and haphazard manners.

Moreover, the quality of material being used in them was not up to the mark.

Block Development and Panchayat Officers had been instructed to ensure the holding of a regular monthly meeting of all the Panchayats at a common place in his respective block, the Minister said.

A bulletin board depicting the total grant received, expenditure and balance with the Panchayat would have to be displayed in the meeting venue so that each Panch and inhabitants could know the financial aspect of their respective Panchayat, he added.
