Dhindsa meets union minister for upgradation of rural road

Chandigarh, June 19 (UNI) The Punjab PWD Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa today met the Union Minister of Rural Development Dr.

Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and sought easing of the norms of minimum requirement of Right of Way (ROW) under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Bharat Nirman rural road upgradation projects.

For the upgradation of Rural Road network under the project, at t 7582 Km of rural roads have been identified in Punjab for upgrading under core networks out of which 5072 Km are proposed to be upgraded or rehabilitated up to Phase VIII by March 2009.

Mr Dhindsa and his official team apprised the Union Minister of Rural Development in a meeting in New Delhi, of the problems being faced by them and discussed the proposed targets also.

The Punjab team requested the Ministry to ease the norms regarding the minimum requirement of ROW as the state would have to bear a large financial burden to acquire land for the projects under PMGSY.

Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh assured them that his ministry would provide all necessary help for the timely completion of the various projects under the PMGSY and sympathetically consider its request for relaxation in the norms of ROW.

Mr Karan Avatar Singh Secretary PWD Punjab, Mr K.S.Kajala and B.K.Bansal, Chief Engineers of the Punjab PWD Department were also present in the meeting, an official statement said here.
