Communication on NBW againt Orissa DGP defective-Home Secretary

Bhubaneswar, June 19 (UNI) Orissa Home Secretary Tarun Kanti Mishra today described the communication on the execution of arrest warrant against Director General of Police (Home Guard) B B Mohanti as ''defective''.

A local court in Jaipur had issued arrest warrant against Mr Mohanti for abetting his son, a convict sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a court for raping a German scholar in Alwar, jump parole. The DGP had given surety for his son to go on parole.

Upper Chief Judicial Magistrate (No.2 ) Rajendra Kumar Bansal has given time till July 7 to Police Superintendent (East) to get in touch with DGP A S Gill to carry out the order.

Mr Mishra told reporters here Orissa DGP Amarananda Pattnaik has received the communication from Jaipur Police Superintendent about the NBW issued against Mr Mohanti. He, however, said the communication received from the SP was faulty and Mr Pattnaik has discussed the matter with his counterpart in Rajsthan. The Home Secretary refused to give any deatils.

Lal Kothi police station in Jaipur had filed a petition for issuance of arrest warrant against DGP Mohanti for aiding his son, who remained untraced after the expiry of his parole term from December 4 last.

A team of Rajasthan police last month arrived at Cuttack to arrest the DGP, who went on medical leave for five days before their arrival. The team returned to Jaipur empty handed after four days.

The court, while issuing NBW against Mr Mohanti, has criticised the Orissa police for not cooperating with the Rajasthan police.
