Canadian signs pact with IGRUA, AAI for flight school operations

New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy (IGRUA) and Canadian Aviation Electronics (CAE) Inc today signed a management contract for flight school operations.

CAE also signed a memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for establishing a national flying training institute at Gondia in Maharashtra.

Both pacts were signed in the presence of civil aviation minister Praful Patel and senior officials of the ministry at on-going Paris Air Show.

CAE will assume full responsibility of the IGRUA's management of existing flying school operations including maintenance of aircraft, flying operations, air traffic control, runway maintenance, navigational aids and fire fighting facilities.

The academy's capacity will be increased from present 40 cadets to 110 cadets per year and to eventually more than 200 cadets per year. CAE will adopt a performance-based management philosophy and supply relevant expertise, software and other tools/instruments.

CAE will assume IGRUA's management within two months, according to an official statement. The contract is for an initial term of 10 years and may be renewed for consecutive five year terms.

For the joint venture, the AAI will have 49 per cent equity and the remaining 51 per cent with CAE. The flying training institute at Gondia is estimated to come up at a cost of Rs 114 crore and will produce 200 pilots a year.
