BSF seized six Bangladeshi boats inside Indian territory

Shillong, Jun 19 (UNI) Indian frontier guards today seized six Bangladeshi boats loaded with illegally collected boulders from Ronpnai river at Muktapur in Meghalaya, BSF official said.

The Bangladeshi smugglers on board the boat, however, managed to swim across the river, a BSF press statement issued here said.

Illegal supply of boulders through the Ronpnai river from the state to stone crushers in Bangladesh, has been rampant, the BSF added.

According to sources, about 300 Bangladeshis along with their boats intruded into the area on a daily basis to collect boulders.

Sources also claimed that Bangladesh Rifles(BDR) personnel were encouraging and giving protection to these Bangladeshi labourers in their activity.

Sources also informed that the number of the intruders were increasing by the day.

Meanwhile, BSF jawans deployed at Nayabazar border outpost seized 29 cartons of bidis worth Rs 3,48,000 recently. The bidis were being smuggled to Bangladesh, according to the BSF statement.
