Board for Development of Unauthorised Col Constituted; CM Chairper

New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) In a significant step towards fast track development of unauthorised colonies, the Delhi Government today constituted a Board for their development which would, among other things, review preparation and approval of regularisation plans for these areas and advise on priorities in allocation of resources for providing necessary infrastructure.

At the same time, the State Government also established a "Special Fund for development of Unauthorized Colonies" with outlay of Rs 2800.00 crores in the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12) to meet the expenditure on provision of water supply, sewerage, roads, drains, sanitation and community services.

A total of 1500 unauthorized colonies in Delhi are likely to benefited by the Government's recent measure.

The Chief Minister will be the Chairperson of the Board while Minister for Urban Development has been nominated as its Vice-Chairman whereas Minister for Development, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Power), Principal Secretary (Health), Principal Secretary (Finance&Plg.), Divisional Commissioner, Commissioner, MCD, Vice Chairman, DDA, MD, NDPL/BSES(Yamuna)/BSES(Rajdhani), CEO, Delhi Jal Board, Managing Director, DSIIDC, Engineer-in-Chief, MCD, Secretary(Education) and Engg. Member, DDA would function as its Members. Principal Secretary (UD) would function as Member Secretary.

The Board for development of unauthorised colonies, constituted with the approval of Lt Governor, would review the status of preparation and approval of regularisation plans for unauthorised colonies, advise on priorities in allocation of resources for providing necessary infrastructure in such colonies, decide on the policy and modalities for levy of development charges, review the progress of implementation of the projects relating to development of unauthorised colonies and assess the requirement of funds for development of such colonies.

This is an important step, which has been taken by the Government in order to fast track proposals for development of infrastructure in the unauthorised colonies, which are going to be regularized, as soon as a decision in this regard is taken.
