Aurobindo gets S Africa nod for Zidovudine

New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Aurobindo Pharma has received marketing authorisation approval for its anti-AIDS drug Zidovudine Oral Solution from South Africa's Medicines Control Council (MCC).

Zidovudine belongs to the class of drugs called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), which help keep the AIDS virus from reproducing, and will be marketed in dosages of 50 mg and 5 ml by the company.

It is intended for use with other ARV agents for the treatment of HIV, the drug maker said in a statement.
