Armed Force Act to extend in three more Tripura police stations

Agartala, June 19 (UNI) As a part of security measures before forthcoming assembly elections, Tripura government has decided to extend Armed Force (Special Powers) Act 1958 in three more police station areas of the state.

According official report, the decision was taken in the state level co-ordination committee held last week to bring mixed populated Lefunga, Mandai and Bisharamjang police stations of West Tripura under the act.

Altogether 28 Police station areas in full and 6 Police Station areas in part had been declared as disturbed earlier.

"Though the militancy related incidents went down but the threats of communal tension is still there in some areas, which prompted us to extend the act," said the state home department officials adding the proposal of extension of Armed Force (Special Powers) Act has been sent to Law department.

The most serious militancy affected states/areas, of northeast is Manipur, Nagaland and Asom as well as the Tripura and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh and a 20 km belt from Asom in the neighbouring states have been declared 'disturbed areas' under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
