UNPA slams Patil's remarks on 'purdah'
Chennai, June 18 (UNI) The newly-formed United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) today had a dig at UPA's Presidential candidate and Rajasthan Governor Ms Prathiba Patil's remarks on women wearing 'purdah' (veil).
When the issue was raised during the course of a press conference addressed by the UNPA leaders, TDP Supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, who was a key member in floating this new front, said ''it's not good''.
''Being the candidate for Presidential elections, hurting the sentiments of Muslims is not correct,'' he added.
Ms Patil had remarked that purdah system was introduced in India to protect women from Mughal aggressors.
