Meghalaya: 2 held for circulating fake currency notes

Shillong, June 18: Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two Indian nationals at Rasanagiri in South Garo Hills and recovered Rs 500 Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) from their possession on Friday, a delayed BSF release said here today.

Preliminary reports revealed that both of them were trying to cross over to Bangladesh for exchanging fake currency notes.

The apprehended persons Rinsang (19) and Kingkong Ch Sangma had been haded over to the Baghmara police station.

After interrogating them the BSF along with police conducted a joint operation in the Rasnagiri village and recovered seven Indian currency note of Rs one thousand denomination from the premises of the house of Grikseng R Marak, who was apprehended by Shillong police on May 2 here in connection with circulation of FICN.

Despite all efforts by BSF and Police, the attempt to circulate fake currencies continues with the connivance of criminals on both sides of the Indo-Bangla, the release said adding that so far BSF had seized FICN Rs 50,900 from January this year till date. It said one Bangladeshi and three Indian have been apprehended by BSF till date.
