Tripeak Eagles cycle expedition reaches Chandiagrh

Chandigarh, June 18 (UNI) The seven-day cycle expedition from Pooh in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district to Chandimandir of Tripeak Eagle's, Independent Field Workshop Company of the EME was flagged in by Maj Gen Ravi Khetarpal, MG, EME, Western Command here today.

Gen Khetarpal complimented the expedition members for their feat and hoped that the goodwill and the awareness generated during the expedition would help motivate the youth to join the Indian army.

Led by Capt Niyaz Ahmed, the expedition comprising 12 army personnel was flagged off from Pooh by Brig KNP Nair, Commander, 36 Sector on June 12.

Starting from the great heights of the Himalayas and culminating in the northern plains, the expedition covered 450 Kms over a period of seven days.

After cycling nearly 225 Kms in the first three days, which included steep climb of 80 Kms, the expedition scaled the Narkanda peak on June 14.

Braving the inclement weather on June 15, the team travelled 55 Kms to reach Shimla from where it proceeded for Kalka before finally arriving at Chandimandir today.

The expedition was aimed at inculcating the spirit of adventure among the army personnel and testing the human endurance in the face of adverse circumstances.

To promote ties between the armed force and the local population, the expedition team visited several schools, interacted with the children and distributed sweets to them, defence sources said here.
