TN Govt to absorb PG diploma medicos

Chennai, June 18 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government will absorb all the 285 PG Diploma students in government medical colleges under the three-year bond executed by students for working in government sector.

A GO to the effect was issued and counselling would be held on June 20, Health Secretary V K Subburaj said while inaugurating a day-long workshop organised by Madras Medical College Anaesthesia Continuing Medical Education (MACME) Workshop yesterday.

Over 300 seats had been sanctioned for the PG classes,he said.

In response to appeals by anaesthetists, Mr Subburaj said of the 5,000 people to be trained as technicians in various specialities this year, 500 would be imparted skills for becoming anaesthesia technicians.

To develop their skillsets, the first batch of doctors from rural areas was trained for six months in performing surgeries, too, he said adding the batch would have to undergo a theory and practical test before returning to their jobs.
