Third Front decision on Kalam reflection of desperate move : Cong

New Delhi, June 18 (UNI) The Congress today asserted that it had no doubt about the winning chances of the UPA-Left Presidential candidate Pratibha Patil, and dimissed as a "desperate" move the decision of the Third Front to sponsor President A P J Abdul Kalam for a second term.

Party Spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi told mediapersons here that the choice of their candidate showed that they were indecisive, and asked : "Has Dr Kalam accepted their decision.?" Asked if the Congress did not approve the suggestion that Dr Kalam was an "exceptional President," Mr Chaturvedi said "we believe all Presidents of India have been exceptional." Asked if the Congress would accept the candidature of Dr Kalam if his name emerged as a consensus candidate, he said "we have already fielded our candidate." UNI
