Temperatrures hovered below normal in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Jun 18 (UNI) Temperatures hovered below normal at most places in Punjab and Haryana today following rain in the region, providing respite to people from schorching heat.

The maximum fell by six degrees to ten degrees below normal in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Union Territory.

The Weather Office has attributed the fall in the temperatures to western disturbance lying over Jammu and Kashmir and neighbourhood.

Also, an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over north southern Himachal Pradesh and neighbourhood which extends upto 3.1 km above sea level.

In Punjab, the temperatures dipped following rain with Amritsar and Ludhiana recording 33.9 degrees and 32.3 degrees, nine degrees below normal. Patiala registered 33.4 degrees celsius which was seven degrees below normal.

The temperatures also declined in Haryana in the wake of rain.

Hissar, which usually turns out to be the hottest place in the state, registered the maximum at 30.8 degrees celsius, ten degrees below normal. The town measured 65.8 mm rain till morning. Ambala recorded 33.2 degrees, six degrees below normal, while Karnal showed 31.2 degrees which was nine degrees down.

The mercury also hovered below normal at Chandigarh and its adjoining areas in Punjab and Haryana. The city recorded 33.4 degrees celsius, six degrees below normal.

Most parts of Himachal Pradesh were lashed by rainfall. Bhuntar in Kullu disrict recorded 32.8 degrees while Sundernagar in Mandi district registered 31.1 degrees and Kalpa in Kinnaur district showed 22.3 degrees celsius. The capital town of Shimla recorded 23.6 degrees celsius.

The Met Office has predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain or thundeshowers at few places in Punjab during the next 24 hours.
