Teachers more responsible for student's result: Subhas
Barrackpore, Jun 18 (UNI) Veteran CPI(M) leader and state Sports Minister Subhas Chakrabarty has stressed on teachers' role in improving the students' results in educational institutions.
Addressing an open session of the district conference of the CPI(M)'s frontal organisation - Student's Federation of India(SFI) here yesterday, Mr Chakravarty observed, ''Students are being declared unsuccessful and detained. This can be described as punishment for their lapse in studies.'' ''Even their guardians are virtually punished as they have to spend more money for their wards to continue education in the same class without considering the actual reason for failure of students,''he maintained.
''Very often students complain they are not properly taught in schools or colleges,'' Mr Chakrabarty said, adding that teachers should be made answerable to the authorities for the students' failure.
The CPI(M) leader also differed from the idea of awarding prizes or felicitating budding students just by the merit lists published in the present examination system, which according to him was of no use.
He said that positive dividends would only be achieved if errant teachers would be equally dealt with by the proper authorities.
