Support for Kalam not too late: Naidu

Chennai, June 18 (UNI) The newly-formed United National Progressive Alliance's (UNPA) surprise decision to back renowned missile scientist and President A P J Abdul Kalam for a second term is not too late, according to TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu.

''This is the correct time. It's the right time for all major parties to arrive at a consensus'', the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, who along with AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa played a key role in forming the Front comprising eight regional parties, told reporters here today.

He said that even during the last Presidential polls, the NDA had first proposed the name of former Maharashtra Governor P C Alexander. ''In the last minute, Mr Kalam's name was proposed and a consensus was arrived at,'' he noted.
