Statistics best indicators of development, says CSO DG

Shimla, Jun 18 (UNI) Statistics are important while making the policies and programmes and are best indicators of measuring the development of any country, Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) Director General S K Nath today said.

Addressing a three-day regional workshop on district income estimates here, he said the data prepared by the economic and Statistical Department was important for the development of the theory and overall development of the country.

Expressing satisfaction over Himachal achieveing double-digit economic growth as per the Millennium Development Goals, Mr Nath said the state has also taken a lead in preparing statistics.

The state has put its resources to good use as against some states and countries that have huge infrastructual gaps between its statistics and development, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Finance Secretary Arvind Mehta said that all the departments have been directed to prepare the statistics.
