Somaiya alleges step-motherly treatment to Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 18 (UNI) Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya today alleged that the Central government had not given anything to the city in terms of investments or new projects although the metropolis was contributing 40 per cent to the over eight per cent growth of the country.

He said, in a letter written to PM Manmohan Singh, the direct tax collection from Mumbai had gone up from Rs 42,663 crores in 2004-05 to Rs 76,113 crores in 2006-07.

''The PM has announced many projects like making Mumbai the Shanghai of India or making it an International Financial Center and other announcements like MUTP, MUIP and Mithi river projects but nothing much has been done in this regard,'' he added.
