Shova Sen falicitated by Greenwood Theatre Festival
Kolkata, Jun 18 (UNI) Octogenarian Shova Sen, whose six decades of acting in stages since her debut in "Nobanno" in late 40's made her instant celebrity, was today given "Utpal Dutta Smarak Sanman" for her lifetime achievement in theatre.
Movie actor Om Puri before bestowing her the award, named after her late husband Utpal Dutta, and a cheque of Rs 50,000 at the end of 6th "Greenwood Spirit Theatre Festival" touched her feet to acknowlege her six decades' contribution of theatre movement.
She is now 85 years old and perhaps the only surviving personality of Bengal's modern theatre movement that was launched in late 40's.
Since her debutal in "Nobanno" directed by her late husband, she had creditable role in Tiner Talowar, Kollol, Pherari, and many other plays and some movies like Nagarik driected by Mrinal Sen.
Tripti Mitra Smriti puruskar for best production from amongst the Kolkata based groups went to Ragroop for its much acclaimed play " Mukhosh Nritya".
Shilpayan from North 24 Parganas has won the Bijon Bhattacharya Smriti Samman for its play " Satya Shylock" adpated from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice. Both the awards carries Rs 25,000 cash plus certificates, sponsored by Bengal Shrachi, a real estate developer, to promote theatre movement in West Bengal.
