MP minister favours police commissioner system
Jabalpur, June 18 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh favours implementation of a police commissioner system in this state.
''However, it is my personal opinion. Profound deliberation is imperative prior to such a step and only the government and Assembly are empowered to take the decision,'' he told UNI here.
Pointing out that deliberation was progressing on the extent to which the men in khaki should be given a free hand, Mr Singh added that a Police Act (Amendment) Bill would be tabled in the Vidhan Sabha by this year's end.
''The government succeeded in stamping out dacoity from Gwalior-Chambal region. However, sporadic banditry is taking place in Rewa and Sagar divisions. A proposal for recruiting 15,000 constables was sent to the Centre but the latter did not aye it.
Three thousand will be recuited next year,'' he said.
