MCD making all efforts to meet waterlogging during rains: Mayor

New Delhi, June 18 (UNI) Blaming lack of cooperation from Delhi government and other agencies like the DMRC and the Railways for waterlogging in many areas due to rains over the past few days, Delhi Mayor Aarti Mehra said the MCD was well prepared to deal with the Monsoons.

''We are making all necessary efforts to complete the process of desilting of drains in Delhi to avoid any waterlogging during the monsoons,'' the Delhi Mayor said at a press meet here.

Further, she said, at a meeting of the high-powered committee with the MCD Commissioner, it was decided that the MCD would buy many super sucker machines in a few months to keep itself prepared well before the arrival of Monsoons from next year.

The MCD had also been holding meetings with the PWD, the Railways, the DMRC and other agencies for their coordination its sloving the problem, Ms Mehra said.

The Railway authorities had been requested for desilting their culverts the before onset of Monsoons so that they are able to cater to discharge of drains on either side of railway line. Also, in Badarpur, waterlogging was caused in the past few days due to overflow of sewer lines laid down by the Delhi Jal Board.

''There are certain areas like Jahangirpuri, Wazir Pur and Model Town where the flooding of water during Monsoons is a constant problem. However, these being low lying areas, water does not flow through gravity and pumping is the only solution. Therefore, representatives of Dostcoms had been requested for 24 hour electricity supply from July 1 to September 30,''she said.

''Unfortunately, however, the agencies have not coordinated to sort out the problem,''the Mayor said at the press meet, where Leader of the House Subhash Arya was also present.
