Lifer becomes role model for other inmates

Patna, Jun 18 (UNI) The inmates of Beur model central jail here have found a role model in Manju Devi, who is serving time for life.

Walking on her footsteps, they too were fetching handsome money through Madhubani painting, a world famous art form.

Inspired by her skill in Madhubani painting, the women prisoners instead of gossiping and wasting time were now utilising every bit of their time in making items of Madhubani painting.

The expertise of Manju Devi in Madhubani painting drew the attention of the jail authorities, who then shifted her to Beur central jail from Mahdubani jail, where she is now imparting training to the inamtes in this much sought after art of Bihar.

Convicted for murdering one of her relatives five years back, Manju Devi is now a totally changed person. With moral support from jail authorities, she is busy making sarees and other dress materials in Madhubani painting.

The Inspector General(jail) Sandip Paundrik, showing a positive gesture towards Manju Devi's efforts and skill had bought the first saree for Rs 500.

Now the other female inmates, along with Manju, were selling the sarees made by them and were getting orders for more of the same.

The jail officials too were helping them in the work which was also fetching them handsome money.
