K'taka Govt., contemplates issue of permanent caste cerificates

Bangalore, June 18 (UNI) The Karnataka Government is contemplating to issue Caste Certificates to SC, ST and Backward Class Communities on permanent basis on the lines of Ration Cards, Minister for Social Welfare Balchandra Jarkhiholi said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that already District Level Committees, under the Deputy Commissioners, have been set up for verifications of data on caste origins.

The Caste Certificates would be useful for the category one, two and three to get the government benefits during admission to educational institutions, recruitment to government jobs and other benefits.

Mr Jarkhiholi said he would hold talks with the Chief Minister for its implementation at the earliest. With this system there would be no need to renew the Caste Certificate annually.

Stating that he was in touch with the Chief Minister regarding setting up of Backward Class Commission, he said it would be set up before July Five.
