Kripa's double whammy at Commonwealth
Indore, June 18 (UNI) Arjuna awardee Kripashankar Patel, who represents Railway Indore, has scored a double whammy at Canada's Commonwealth Wrestling Championship by bagging a gold in 55-kg Freestyle and a silver in the 55-kg Greco-Roman category.
''Teams from a dozen countries took part in the event that concluded yesterday. Patel vanquished Pakistan's Azhar Hussain for the Freestyle crown. In 2005, he became the first wrestler to bag golds in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman at the Commonwealth Championship in South Africa,'' District Wrestling Association Secretary Umesh Patel said in a release here.
Patel, who represented India in 47 international competitions, has won 11 golds, 8 silvers and 5 bronzes.
