Chennai, Jun 18 (UNI) Sabrina Lal, sister of Jessica Lal, who was killed at a bar named Tamarind Court Cafe in south Delhi a few years back, today claimed that justice was a privilege and it was often bought, packaged and auctioned to the highest bidder.

Addressing the FICCI Ladies Organisation symposium on 'Justice- Right or Privilege' she said ''however, it cannot always be subverted as it happened in my case and role of the media was very vital in bringing out the truth''.

Ms Sabrina also called for making investigating agencies independent and using the forensic evidence at the scene of the crime should be used as one of the main evidence.

Commenting on the public prosecutors, she said, ''the public prosecutors are poorly paid and sometimes inept at handling cases.

People should be given right to appoint their own lawyers and should not be left at the mercy of the public prosecutors.'' Commenting on dangers faced by the witnesses, she said the judicial and legal system in the country should focus on the protection of the witness.
