Indo-US trade to cross $50 bn by year-end: US CG

Mumbai, June 18: Making a retrospection of trade between United States and India, US Consul General Michael Owen said his country's trade with India shall cross US 50 billion dollar mark by the end of 2007.

''The bilateral trade between India and US, which was USD 3 billion 20 years ago and last year it touched USD 32 billion, shall cross this historic mark of USD 50 billion, taking in view the improved economy and manufacturing growth of both countries,'' Mr Owen said in a statement here today.

He said the US always looks forward to better and improved trade ties with India, as India is one of the biggest trading partners, and each one values relations and looks forward to better economic and bilateral ties.

Mr Owen was the chief guest at the WTCA Day reception organised here by the World Trade Centre (WTC). Every year in the month of June, WTCA Day is celebrated after the instance of 9/11, to mark solidarity as WTC believes in 'Peace and Stability through Trade' and this was the 6th year in succession, the statement said.

The function was attended by 200 participants comprising Consul Generals of various countries, US Commercial Consul Jim Cunningham, WTC members, industrialists, government officials and eminent personalities from all walks of life, it added.
