Former HPCC president and MLA injured in road accident

Shimla, Jun 18 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president and legislator Gyan Chand Totu was seriously injured in a road accident here early today and had been referred to a hospital in Chandigarh, police sources said.

He suffered head injuries after he fell down after being hit by a motorbike, which skidded over sleet, at Totu Chowk, near here, at about 0600 hrs after the motorcyclist applied brakes on seeing him.

The sources said the motorcyclist, who also suffered injuries, rushed him to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), which referred him to PGI Chandigarh.

The former legislator had been admitted to Fortis Hospital at Chandigarh where doctors described his condition critical.

A case had been registered against the motorcyclist and investigations were on, the sources said.
