Congress blames BJP for the delay on Mahadayi project

Bangalore, Jun 18(UNI) The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) today blamed Bharatiya Janata Party led NDA Government had put spanner on the spoke of the Mahadayi drinking water project intended to quench the thirst of Hubli-Dharwar and other towns in Northern Karnataka.

KPCC General Secretary V S Ugrappa, in a press release here, charged that the BJP-led NDA government had stayed the execution of the Mayadayi drinking water project following pressure exhorted from BJP's Manohar Parikkar government in Goa during 2002.

Stating that Congress in Karnataka was committed to the project Mr Ugrappa has said that it was the Congress government in the state which was responsible for taking initiative for the Diversion of Kalasa-Banduri river to meet the drinking water needs of Northern Karnataka.

Alleging that BJP trying to politicise the statement of Congress President Sonia Gandhi during Goa election, Mr Ugrappa warned that Congress would launch counter-agitation against BJP.

Mr Ugrappa said that Ms Gandhi and Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh have already made their stand clear on the issue and have conveyed that UPA government would extend all support to quench the thrust of people of Northern Karnataka.
