cong candidate wins KMC byelection

Kolhapur, June 18 (UNI) Congress candidate Ruksana Mustaq Momin today won the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) line-bazar ward corporator's by-election, defeating Jansurajya party candidate Sangeeta Namdev Biranje by 114 votes.

In three-cornered contest, Momin polled total 1882 votes and Sangeeta Biranje got 1768 votes while independent candidate Vijaya Vishwajeet Parab received 45 votes.

The polling for the by-election was held yesterday in which 71.52 per cent voters exercised their franchise and the counting was held today.

The election was necessitated after sitting corporator Shobha Mandhare lost the post over her caste certificate being declared invalid.
