Bihar government to set up district level mobile science centres

Patna, Jun 18 (UNI) In order to popularise the knowledge of science and technology among the young population, the Bihar Government has decided to introduce a number of "Mobile Science Centres" in every district by next year.

Official sources here today said the new centre would be equipped with all modern electronic equipment and gadgets like telescope, satellite telephones, and the latest brand of television sets and many other scientific equipment would tour every corner of the districts, including the remotest areas, round the year to inculcate a sense of scientific knowledge among the villagers,particularly among the boys and girls students there.

Some scientific minded government officials, who would be picked up through proper testing, would accompany the centres in every district to spread the message and help generate interest among illeterate villagers and young students about the value and usefulness of the latest development of science and technology around the globe.

Referring to the viability of the project in the long run, the sources said though the government would initially bear the entire cost,later on some charges might be levied on village panchayats to recover a portion of the overall expenditure.

However, no final decision had yet been taken in this regard, the sources clarified.

About other steps being considered at the ministry level to generate more interest about the development in science and technology worldover and create scientific interest among the people across the state, the sources said a state-of-the-art planetorium was being planned at Darbhanga after modernising the one at the capital city here at a cost Rs 40 crore by next year.
