Bahuguna to spearhead agitation against Ski village

Kullu, Jun 18 (UNI) Noted environmentalist and leader of the Chipko Movement Sunder Lal Bahuguna today said he would spearhead an agitation in protest against the setting up of the Ski Village in Kullu district.

''I will not only come here again, but will camp here too,'' he said while talking to reporters here.

Replying to question whether he had read the detailed project report (DPR) submitted by the Ford Company, Mr Bahuguna said he was not concerned with it, but was for safeguarding ''jal, jungle and zameen'' of the local people.

Opposing the setting up of the village in the district, he said environment was the means of livelihood of the people living in the hills and all acts adversely affecting it would not be tolerated at any cost.

He also stressed the need for complete tree cover in the Himalayan region, saying this was the only way to save the civilization.
